Who we are

We are a group of four well known local charities, St Ann’s Hospice, Christie’s Hospital, Henshaws Society for Blind People and The Together Trust. We represent a broad range of local public interest in local charities.

Why we were set up

Legacies are a vital source of income for local charities. Currently, a small proportion of the UK’s largest charities are receiving the majority of legacy income. For growing local charities, this imbalance is detrimental to the provision of essential services, both now and in the future.

Individually we do not have the resources available to make people aware of how important leaving a legacy to a local charity is. We therefore decided it would be a good idea to pool our resources to continue to stress the importance of legacy income to all local charities.

The campaign has been set up at a very minimal cost to the charities involved and the creative work has been provided by Manchester based design agency Funnel Creative.

Our objectives

The main purpose is to raise awareness of the importance of making a will , and to consider leaving a legacy to a local charity. These four long established local charities provide invaluable services to the local community. All local charities need this continued support to ensure that we can continue to provide these services in the future.

Why make a will

Most of us put off making a will because it's something we don't want to think about. But making a will can also help you plan your finances and ensure that your assets are distributed in accordance with your wishes. Your requests will be carried out making arrangements easier on your family and friends.

Your estate may also be affected by Inheritance Tax. Your estate is the net value of everything you own - all your assets minus any debts. Currently Inheritance Tax is charged at 40% on anything above £275,000. Gifts to charities are free of any Inheritance Tax.
